The 6th grade boys basketball team finished out their season at the West Washington tourney on February 11th. The Hawks opened the tourney with a hard fought victory over the host West Washington Senators defeating them by the final score of 38-33 in what was their best all around game of the year. The last time the two teams met, West Washington pummeled the Hawks 45-9.
However, the much improved Hawks let it be known that would not be the case in this contest. Both teams came out hot as West Washington jumped to an early 14-10 first quarter lead as they were 6-6 from the free throw line. Valley was again outscored in the second quarter as they trailed the Senators 22-15 at the half. Behind the balance scoring of Landon Qualkenbush, Blake Buchanan and Keyton Jones, Valley tied the game at 28-28 heading into the final quarter of play. Keyton Jones scored 8 of his game high 18 points in the final quarter including two clutch free throws that eliminated any chance of a West Washington comeback. Valley only had 3 persons to score in the game, but each were in double figures. Landon Qualkenbush and Blake Buchanan each had 10 points. Although not scoring, Ethan Parker had several rebounds and played excellent interior defense.
